Edge of Tomorrow

Starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. Edge of Tomorrow tells the story of Major William Cage (Cruise) who is fighting in a war against a race of aliens called Mimics, who have taken over Europe. Caught in a time loop, Cage must fight the same battle over and over until he can change the outcome. His only ally is Sergeant Rita Vrataski (Blunt), who experienced the exact same thing. Based on the Japanese novel "All You Need is Kill" by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, Edge of Tomorrow was directed by Doug Liman, director of films such as the Bourne Identity and Mr & Mrs Smith. Brendan Gleeson and Bill Paxton co-star.
Despite including very few well known faces, the acting in Edge of Tomorrow is really very good. Every actor makes the story more believable. As for Tom Cruise, he plays his part outstandingly. It may well be one of his best ever performances to date. The character development throughout the film is superb, and both Cruise and Blunt portray the changes their characters go through amazingly well. In fact, this is the best acting I've ever seen Emily Blunt do.
The special effects are brilliant, and the Mimics (the aliens that are trying to invade Europe) are really well designed. The combat is spectacular, and manages to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole film. Edge of Tomorrow has an overall serious tone, which you would expect from this genre of film. It does, however, incorporate enough humorous lines to produce a good laugh from the audience.
The film as a whole sets a really good pace, and keeps to it all the way through. Despite it being slightly slow at the beginning, it never leaves you bored, and remains wonderfully action packed from start to finish. The story just gets better and better the longer you watch. Plenty of twists and turns are thrown in to keep you guessing. Some of these are rather predictable in nature, but there are enough of the unpredictable kind to keep you interested. Especially the ending (I'm not giving anything away).
The ending was, surprisingly, really good. I say "surprisingly" because often films similar to "Edge of Tomorrow" lack a conclusive ending, and leave the film on a shocking and/or confusing cliffhanger. Edge of Tomorrow doesn't do this, so there's no need to worry about sitting through a film only to find that the ending is pointless. Thankfully.

Edge of Tomorrow is a spectacular sci-fi film with amazing acting, a brilliantly fast pace and wonderful special effects. I would highly recommend you watch this.
